Gaming Mouse

Video games are entertaining, and you can play them on almost any smart device nowadays. Mobile games are probably the most convenient because everyone has a smartphone, but a larger screen almost always delivers a better experience. While considerably more expensive, console and PC gaming are more popular. Just like a bigger screen will improve the experience, the accessories and gaming peripheral play a role in delivering the experience. Like a controller to a console, our PC needs the mouse to work and interact with the software.

Do you need a gaming mouse? It depends on what you want to aim for because some differences set a regular mouse to a gaming mouse. Most people can play with any mouse or keyboard, but you may need something with higher-tech specs and abilities. One of the most noticeable parts is their sensor. Notice that regular mice don’t allow for sensitivity adjustment like most gaming mice that give the players freedom.

A gaming mouse is also made for convenience and speed. The buttons are not limited to the right, left-click, scroll wheel but also several side buttons that can be programmed. This allows the player to dial functions easily from the mouse without finding it from the menu. You can also make several profiles with a different adjustments that can be activated anytime. There is a feature to add or remove weight in some gaming mice to improve the peripheral’s ergonomics.

About Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar

These are some common differences between a regular and gaming mouse that may affect your experience. No one will stop you from using a traditional mouse for gaming, but we think it is wise to consider improving the experience with a proper gaming mouse. There are more than plenty of interesting mice to try, and most players buy one based on their game. This allows you to choose an ideal model suitable for the type of hand movement or playing.

For those who play FPS and MOBA often, you may wonder which mouse to go for since they typically call for different mouse types; one is usually simpler while the other is rich in added features. But, some exciting gaming mice such as Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar are made to be ideal for both players. These mice are similar in performance because they are equally responsive and adjustable, yet, they may not be made for every player.

We think the Nightsword is still a better choice if what you play is mostly FPS, and you don’t want to fiddle with the vast number of buttons. Does it mean the Scimitar is not ideal for FPS? You can play FPS with this mouse, but for some people, the number of buttons on its thumb rest can harm their focus when accidentally pressed, especially when you need to move the mouse fast while navigating and aiming a target.

The differences between Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar are mostly based on the shape or design. Nightsword is a more straightforward mouse and probably what most people are more familiar it because it is not far different from typical office mouse-shaped wise. On the other hand, Scimitar boasts extensive programmable buttons, which is excellent if you use this feature to dial various in-game functions or trigger other tasks on the software. Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar Design

For the comparison today, we are talking about the Scimitar Pro because you can find another variant called Elite which is slightly more expensive. The shape and design of these mice are similar, with noticeable differences. The Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar are about the same height, 43mm on the tallest spot. However, the length is different because Nightsword is slightly elongated or more extended at 130 mm compared to 117 mm of Scimitar Pro.

Because Scimitar adds a set of buttons on the thumb rest, this mouse becomes slightly wider or 75 mm on the broadest part or 71 mm in the middle where your hand will grip its sides. On the other hand, Nightsword is about 69 mm on the widest part or 63 mm around the middle area. What’s surprised us is that Nightsword is quite a heavy mouse or 145 grams, not including the cable, while Scimitar is only 120 grams. This weight becomes even more noticeable when you add the extra weights.

Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar Sensor

Moving to the most crucial part, the mouse can’t track without the sensor, and this is almost always the center of the gaming mouse every time a company introduces its new mouse. The Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar use the same optical or LED sensor. The series is probably not identical because they are launched quite far from each other. The Nightsword RGB here was released in 2019, two years after Scimitar, so it is very likely to use a newer sensor.

This increases the maximum sensitivity to 18,000 DPI or CPI compared to 16,000 on the older mouse. The minimum adjustment will be 100. The user can program this accurately up to 1 CPI, which is excellent if you have a specific preference; all adjustment is accessible by installing iCue software by Corsair on your computer.

Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar Features

Next, we want to talk about the features that you can find on these gaming mice. One of the most noticeable differences between Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar is their weight. Suppose you like heavy mouse Nightsowrd is probably more satisfying to use. Even if the initial weight is still not heavy enough for you, we can custom the weight and its weight distribution using three 3.5 grams and three 2.7 grams of extra weight. Just like most gaming mice, the two utilize mechanical buttons.

The difference is that Scimitar comes with 17 buttons, of which 12 of them are located on the side. Nightsword also has plenty of buttons or 10 buttons;  3 of them are on the side. It also has one sniper button with programmable CPI. While there is no dedicated sniper button on Scimitar, we can program the side buttons to act like one. As for the RGB panel, we think they are equally attractive.

Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar Ergonomics

One of the most critical parts of a gaming mouse is ergonomic, which is highly subjective to the player. But, Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar are huge mice, so they are perfect if you are holding the mouse in palm style. For Nightsword, the length is a bit longer, so small hands may find it less comfortable to reach the front right and left click even in palm style. This also applied to the claw-style users; if you have a small hand, the Nightsowrd may be less comfortable.

But, we think Nightsword is an ideal choice for medium and large hands. The length and height allow for a perfect finger placement when pressing the main buttons. For players using the fingertip style, the Scimitar will be more comfortable as it is easier to move and reach. For Nightsword, the fingertip style may be out of option unless you have a very big hand.

Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar Experience

Lastly, for the experience, performance-wise and response are great on both mice. We have no issue navigating and aiming with them, but the side buttons of Scimitar can sometimes get pressed in the heat of the game. But, it is because we are personally not used to the mouse’s ergonomics yet. It is lighter than Nightsword, so it is easy to lift and reposition. Talking about mouse repositioning, Nightsword comes with a higher lift-off distance.

It is adjustable from the software, and if you often lift the mouse, we highly recommend changing it to be lower so the mouse will stop tracking. The Scimitar is surprisingly lower, and since it is lighter, the mouse is more comfortable if you often lift it.

Corsair Nightsword Vs Scimitar

Both Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar are good gaming mice but probably not for the same type of player. The main difference between Corsair Nightsword and Scimitar is their shape which affects the ergonomics of the game you play. We can play FPS and MOBA with these mice, but Nightsowrd is ideal for FPS games where you don’t want to fiddle with many features. For MOBA, the programmable buttons are handy for in-game commands. Another difference is Nightsword has a newer sensor, higher sensitivity, and adjustable weight.

- Smart Tunable Weight System: Corsair-exclusive software automatically detects the mouse’s centre of gravity in real time, allowing you to adjust weight between 119 g and 141 g and fine-tune balance
- Corsair’s Most Enhanced Optical Sensor Yet: A Custom Pixart PMW3391 Native 18,000 DPI Optical sensor, adjustable in 1 DPI steps, giving you total sensitivity customisation and ultra-accurate tracking
- Professional Comfort: Built with a contoured shape that naturally fits your hand, with high-performance rubber grips inspired by pro sports equipment
- Ten Fully Programmable Buttons: Customize your gaming with the in-game advantage of powerful macros and key remaps.
- Exclusive key slider macro button control system. Compatibility - A PC with a USB port , Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7
- 12 optimized mechanical side buttons designed to pro player specifications for consistent tactile feedback and precise actuation. Textured side button keycaps provide enhanced grip and feel
- The patent pending design provides 8 millimeter of key travel with secure lock to ensure every button is within reach. Surface calibration tuning utility: Optimizes sensor for your playing surface
- Onboard storage with hardware macro playback: Three predefined profiles include actions common for MMO gaming as well as general purpose keyboard shortcuts

There is no bad gaming mouse here because the two are equally attractive. But, we will recommend the Nightsword for FPS gamers or those who don’t want to fire the side buttons accidentally. If you need these side buttons on the opposite, Scimitar comes with more programmable buttons and is lighter for comfort.
