Gaming Mice and Office Mice

Computers are a very substantial device to have in almost every setting today whether it is in a personal space or in a public and business or learning environment. This is an important productivity tool that almost all of us are needing to ease our job especially with the help from various useful software. However, in the last few decades computers are also becoming a recreational tool with the increasing popularity of PC gaming which is now sitting with the similar consoles.

Gaming PCs have their own enthusiasts and as the hobby gets more attention as well as enthusiast, the same happens for the tool and its accessories or companion as well such as gaming mice. This type of peripherals are prominently being used in the application today but the urgency is different among players or users. This is because a regular mouse will in most cases do just fine for gaming purposes as well depending on the user and their personal preference.

Gaming mice is indeed different from regular mice but the difference is not that far enough to make the two of them actually separated in a huge gap. First they are using similar technology on the sensor both can use either laser or optical type while in addition they are also can be shaped in the same form as well. You can find both mice available in wired, wireless, and Bluetooth type too with different battery or power source type.

What makes them different is above the regular design and regular or standard technology used for common office mice such as Logitech G402 Vs G502 Hero. First is the DPI or CPI which in short will decide how fast your cursor will move with the slightest movement and this means the higher the rate the faster as well your cursor can travel across the screen. It can be a great thing for fast pacing games but can be annoying for some and will need you to get used to for a first time user.

The next and in our opinion the most important thing that set regular office mice to a gaming mouse is the ergonomic. This is something that is very personal and different from one person to another since it relates to how comfortable our hand is when holding and moving the mouse. They do have different designs and shapes to suit more user styles and hand size including both for right and left dominant hand. We actually can go fairly fine with any shape but the amount of time needed to get used to the shape will vary greatly as well.

About Logitech G402 and G502

If you feel like the regular mouse can no longer satisfy the gaming experience, now is the time to see what the market has to offer because there are so many of them out there and when it comes to looking for the one that fits your application and taste, we do need to spend some more time to choose the best option. However, if you don’t have time to check the option one by one, we can just pick from one trusted brand and see what they can offer.

Among those many options, Logitech is one of the best choices to consider when it comes to computer peripherals both for the office and gaming function. We are sure most people are familiar with this brand because they are literally the first option for when you are shopping for new accessories and depending on your needs, our favorite part is that they seem to always have the model for your budget and preference whether you prefer affordable ones of those in a higher market.

If you are those who are looking for a gaming mouse that can suit many grip styles and loved by many general users as well, Logitech G405 and G502 will be two of the most reliable options to consider. Both of them are very popular because not only how the prices are fairly affordable but also because of the amazing performance and even carry some additional interesting features on board. However, being close brothers, they are also very similar to each other on so many sides.

The G405 also goes with Hyperion Fury name but for the latter G502 here, we are picking the RGB model since there are various types of this version. The original called Proteus Core in 2014 and the one in our article today is the Proteus Spectrum in which was released in 2016 with RGB technology. The newest model of this series is the Hero version in 2018 which is coming with the new sensor as the name suggests. All of them are fairly similar to each other and in general retain almost everything from the original mouse.

Logitech G402 and G502 Design

Moving back to Logitech G405 and G502, as you can see from the sample picture above, these mice are quite different from each other when it comes to shape and design because the prominent thumb rest on the latter was certainly smaller on the older model, making the previous mouse look slimmer and longer while dimension comparison their length is not very far from each other between 5.4 and 5.2 inches. In addition the latter is quite heavier in comparison yet, this is affected by their special feature as well.

Besides the shape difference, both of them are fairly simple in layout and they do have the same asymmetry shape between the right and left click. In addition, the G502 is also coming with more buttons on the surface to allow you get more function but despite this, we don’t think the G402 is lacking in any way either. Fashion wise, they are very simple and subtle with the same RGB light in the form of “G” logo at the top palm rest.

Logitech G402 and G502 Sensor and DPI

Moving further, the first thing you may want to know about a gaming mice is probably the sensor and its DPI or CPI rate and in this side, you don’t have to worry because they are equally reliable with the same optical sensor except if you are taking the Hero version of G502 because the latter supposed to have better and more effective technology to apply. For the RGB version the comparison between these mice are 240 to 4000 and 200 to 12000 DPI.

Performance wise they are very reliable and in most gaming applications or scenario it is hard to differentiate the speed between the two and even if there is slight difference, it is not going to affect your experience substantially.

Logitech G402 and G502 Buttons

The next part we want to talk about is their buttons because you will need some of them to be customized and in our opinion, the functions matter as well. Here the G502 is winning with more functions on the board with wheel mode shift and profile select button which is programmable that are not available on the G402. Besides these two, in general Logitech G402 and G502 are very similar to each other with common functions like back-forward buttons and a set of DPI selection buttons.

What makes the G402 a bit less convenient in our opinion especially for common office or regular application is the lack of tilting wheel in which the latter is offering the additional function on the unit. This feature may not be necessary for some people but we do appreciate how convenient it is when navigating cursor or position in a large page or document.

Logitech G402 and G502 Comfort

The last part we want to talk about is the comfort and this can differ from user to user but in our opinion those with bigger hands will be more comfortable using G502 for the fact that it is wider as well so we can have more space to put the palm on especially for palm style users. In addition this version comes with adjustable weight that you can attach to the unit to add into its overall weight in case you prefer heavier mouse to work with.

Logitech G402 vs G502

Both Logitech G402 and G502 are amazing mice for various applications not only gaming because they can be as versatile as you need to but in comparison the latter is indeed offering more especially on the amount of DPI and buttons which add into its convenience. We rarely change profiles so the button can be assigned for another function but the tilting wheel is very useful for various activities relating to wide document or positioning.

All in all we can go either with these mice but for those with a bigger hand or prefer a mouse that can be adjusted both on the weight and buttons function, we do think G502 Proteus from Logitech is a nice choice as long as you are right handed user.
