It is widely known that the best gaming mouse is the wired mice. With wired mice there will be less input lag and no need to worry about interruptions in the transmission between the mice and the PC. On the other hand, wireless mouse is catching up its technology is advancing. With wireless mouse it can eliminate cable clutter and allowing maximum movement, it is why wireless mouse is becoming a choice to gamers. In this article we are going to discuss two types of Logitech Gaming Mouse, the G603 and the G304 (which is known as G305 outside of Asia)
Size & Weight
The G603 is a medium-sized mouse, with the dimension 12.4 X 6.8 X 4.3 CM. The size and weight of this mouse is comfortable, it will not leave the hand feeling fatigue while playing. The mouse is powered by 2 AA batteries which make it weigh 135 grams; it is not the heaviest mouse in the market. By removing one battery the weigh can be lowered to 112 grams.
The G304 comes in smaller size than the G603, with 11.5 X 6.1 X 4 CM. With the equipped AA alkaline battery it will weigh 98 grams, however switching it to lithium battery will shave 8 grams. The size is perfect for gamers who don’t use palm grip, with its lightweight and small size it is an advantage to be carried around easily. See also: Razer Atheris vs Logitech G603.
Shape & Texture
The G603 has an ergonomically design to sit nicely in the right hand with a steep curve going in below the thumb buttons and subtly out where the ring finger/pinky sit. The body of this mouse is comfortable to rest on. It is a chunky mouse with a natural shape which is perfect for right-handed gamers. The texture is the robust plastic that is widely seen in a lot of Logitech wireless range but the G603 does not have any rubberized sides to grip on. The main switches slope up towards the mouse wheel and not separated from the main shell. Under the shell is where the batteries and the dongle sit.
The material texture of the G304 is very simple with an affordable yet durable feel. The shell design is flare outwards towards the top of the shell, but it doesn’t have a curve to help it being picked up nor it is flat. The DPI button is located on the top of the mouse behind the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is made of rubber. It also features two conveniently placed side buttons. The same as the G603 the battery and the dongle sit under the main shell. On the bottom there is an on/off button and five small feet which provide a smooth, pleasant and rather fast glide.
There are 6 programmable buttons on the G603 and the G304 including the main button, clickable tactile scroll wheel, a DPI button and 2 thumbs button. The main buttons house Omron switches which are durable to stand 20 million clicks. The thumb buttons are pre-programmed to go back and forward on the internet browser, it is smooth with low profile. The DPI button cycles through preset DPI settings.
On the underside of the mouse there is a connectivity button, it will allow the mouse to connect using the onboard Lightspeed technology or via Bluetooth if the dongle is lost or forgot to be brought. There is also a button called an ‘Advanced Power Management’ button which is a button to change the report rate from 1ms to 8ms.
Sensor & Performance
Both of the G603 and the G304 uses the Logitech latest optical ‘HERO’ sensors, which stands for High-Efficiency Rated Optical. It has the same performance as the PixArt PMW3355 sensor with a jaw-dropping 10 times lower power consumption, which is perfect for wireless gaming mouse. The sensor has a DPI range of 200-12000 and an IPS speed of 400 so tracking is not an issue.
Battery Life & Charging Time
The G603 and the G304 both requires AA battery, one battery can run up to 250 hours. Since the G603 actually runs on two batteries it can run up to 500 hours, but can still function on one battery only. If you switch the G304 to a lithium battery it could get up to 4X the battery life of AA battery. For charging time it is just best to have a spare AA battery so that it will be available any time when the existing battery runs out. Choosing a rechargeable battery is also an option if there is more budget.
Mouse Software Selection
Through Logitech’s gaming software both of this gaming mouse can be control and customize. Assigning specific functions for each of the six button via a drop-down menu in the LGS and there is a range of pre-set options for the thumb buttons. The DPI can be adjust from the software, it can be tweaked in increments of 50 and create a maximum of five DPI presets. Once the DPI is changed the button can be hit right away and there will be no hassle of going into the software again.
